President's Message

 Mary Lew, RDH  BS

I extend a warm welcome to you, our VDHA members, as well as potential members and guests.

The VDHA website is your information resource for matters relating to the profession of dental hygiene, the VDHA, as well as the ADHA.

I’m honored to serve as your VDHA President during 2009-2010.

The year ahead should be both interesting and challenging, as we continue to advance the profession of dental hygiene in Vermont.

Currently, we await the results of a task force, created upon the recommendation of the Government Operations Committee (GOC) at the State House.

This task force is investigating the need for a reconfiguration of dental hygiene representation on the

Board of Dental Examiners (BDE) or the formation of a separate dental hygiene committee.

This committee would oversee any specific dental hygiene issues brought before the BDE.

As we move forward as a health care profession, our service to the residents of the state is our paramount focus.

Those in need must be afforded the access to dental care that they are entitled to.

To this end, VDHA will continue to work toward increasing access to preventive hygiene services throughout the state,

as well as search for methods to increase the public's awareness of the importance of the hygienists' role in oral health care and disease prevention.

If you are currently a VDHA member, I thank you for belonging to your professional association and hope that you continue to see its value.

Those who are not, I’d ask some thoughtful consideration in joining, because the strength and viability of our

organization lies in our membership numbers. A sincere thank you to those who continually

support our VDHA sponsored CE courses and on going fund raising efforts.

I appreciate the opportunity to serve as your president this year and invite your questions as well as your ideas.
